Turn the Crank

One dull job, made a game

Turn the CrankTap the parts, fill the glass, crank a prize

List the parts of a job you do over and over and the small treats you enjoy. Tap each part as you finish it and balls drop into the gumball machine; every full row earns a capsule. Play the house game free, or let one run make the game fit your job.

The game counts parts, never speed. Never rush a part that uses tools, ladders, heat or cleaning products.

3 Make it fit your job

One run reads your parts and notes, scores each part 1 to 3, writes a cheer for each, turns your treats into prize capsules (short pauses fill the rest) and adds an opening and a kind line for when to stop. The page then checks the game against your own words.

    How the game works

Each part is worth 1, 2 or 3 points. Before any run the page reads your notes: a part you call the worst, slowest, hardest, fiddly or one you hate is worth 3; one you call quick, easy, fine or one you like is worth 1; every other part is worth 2. Tap a part's points to change them yourself. Every point drops one ball in that part's colour, and every 10 points fill a row and earn one capsule. Capsules come out in a shuffled order: your treats first become prizes, and short pauses fill the rest, up to four in all.

There are no streaks, no losing and no rewards for speed - stopping early costs nothing, and your play is kept only if you save it. A saved game plays again free next time the job comes round; run it again only when the parts change. It is a light helper for getting through a job, not health or safety advice.
